Aftermarket stereos are extremely popular now. The Chevy HHR comes from the factory with two different stereo options. First off, is the stock Chevy HHR LS stereo. This stereo is a base deck, with aux input, no subwoofer, and no external amplifier. It will play mp3 cd's though, and is decent for a base system.
The Chevy HHR LT and Chevy HHR SS models (as well as "some" LS models) include a premium upgraded sound system, built by pioneer. It may include a USB jack on the front of the stereo fir plug and play with an ipod or mp3 player. They also include a subwoofer installed in the rear of the HHR, with an external amplifier as well.
Alot of people have been upgrading their HHR radio with an aftermarket stereo. This is a fairly complicated procedure and I avise that you take your HHR into a professional stereo install shop to get the work completed. It may be just me, but when it comes to wiring and modding the dash, I like to leave that in the hands of someone who does that work for a living. There are many sweet aftermarket HHR stereos that you can buy, including units from pioneer, alpine, and others. The Chevy HHR Dash Unit is a Double DIN, like most Chevy and GM vehicles. I have seen installs of touch screen double din units in an HHR, and they are SWEET! Check out some of the stereos that are available and you will be impressed as well!
