One of the great maintenance features on the Chevy HHR is the DIC or Driver Information Center. It includes a system that monitors oil life based on the revolutions of the engine, operating temperatures, and key ignition cycles.

The Chevy HHR Oil Life System (OLS) allows you to safely extend the time between oil changes. Gone are the days of 3,000 mile or 5,000 kilometer oil changes. Most HHR owners can now get between 5-10,000 miles on an oil change. Because of using Mobil1 5-30 synthetic oil, and 99% highway driving at 60 mile/hour, I am getting between 10-14,000 kilometers on each oil change. I change the oil once a month in my HHR.
A commonly asked question is, how do I reset the Oil Life system? This is very simple. With your key in the ignition, turn it so that the accessories and dash turn on, but do not start the vehicle. Now, using the sterring wheel mounted controls, press and hold the INFO and ENTER (arrow) button at the same time. On your driver information center, you will see a message that says OIL LIFE RESET. Press and hold the ENTER (arrow) button on your steering wheel. Now, the driver information center should read OIL LIFE ACKNOWLEDGED. You are done. That i exactly how easy it is to resest the oil life system in your Chevy HHR. Make sure to reset the Oil life system in your DIC after each and every oil change!
