I really need help with my 2006 Chevrolet HHR, when I put the car in park and turn the ignition off. My keys won't come out the even though my car is in park. I'm not sure what is wrong but, I could really use some help.

It sounds like the ingnition assembly needs to be replaced.

They have tumblers like any lock, but the also have guides that line up when the vehicle is shut off, and it sounds like one of those guides is binding.

You can try pulling the steering wheel to the left or right, or jiggling it back and forth when you try to remove the key.

If it is not gone to the point of no repair, nothing will help and the assembly will need to be replaced.

With the vehicle being only a 2006, if you have not exceeded your thee year bumper to bumper warranty, this would be covered.

I believe they mean the Blower Motor. It's the motor that blows the heat and a/c through the vents. It is not a major repair and does not effect the value of the vehicle or its resale value.

Though compact in size, the Chevy HHR features clever interior packaging solutions, including a split-folding rear seat, a fold-flat front passenger seat and a cargo area floor (with built-in grocery bag hooks) that allows it to accommodate bulky and/or long cargo items. For shoppers searching for a versatile compact wagon that's also stylish, the HHR certainly merits consideration.

Current Chevrolet HHR

The Chevrolet HHR is a compact four-door wagon that shares its front-wheel-drive architecture -- and thus many of its driving characteristics -- with the Chevrolet Cobalt. Four trim levels are offered: LS, 1LT, 2LT and SS. A passenger version is available in all trims, and the two-seat panel van version comes in LS and LT trims.

The base LS model features full power accessories, cruise control, air-conditioning, keyless entry and a stereo with an auxiliary input jack as standard. The 1LT adds a power driver seat and a longer options list. Both the LS and 1LT are powered by a 155-horsepower, 2.2-liter inline-4, while the 1LT offers the option of a 172-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. The 2LT includes the bigger engine as well as 17-inch wheels, a firmer suspension and a premium stereo. The athletic SS comes with a turbocharged 260-hp 2.0-liter engine, a sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels and special exterior and interior accents. All HHRs have antilock brakes, stability control and side curtain airbags as standard.

Oddly, all the trims offer roughly the same EPA fuel economy ratings regardless of engine or transmission choice, the latter limited to five-speed manual or four-speed automatic units. The Chevy HHR is available only with front-wheel drive, while several competitors offer all-wheel drive for enhanced foul-weather capability.

The cabin, unlike those of most other small GM vehicles, boasts nicely detailed gauges, pleasing radio graphics, tight construction and substantial-feeling controls. The HHR's tall ceiling provides headroom aplenty, but the narrow body limits comfort for adults riding in the backseat. In testing, our editors commented favorably about the HHR's smooth and quiet ride, ample cargo space, attractive interior, excellent visibility and versatile sound system. Noted downsides included weak brakes, bland handling dynamics and a lack of low-end pull and refinement from the 2.4-liter engine. The SS version, on the other hand, offers spirited performance, stronger braking and buttoned-down handling.

Used Chevrolet HHR Models

The Chevrolet HHR was an all-new model in 2006 and as such, changes have been minor since. The HHR's sophomore year brought a little more power (the 2.2-liter four went from 143 to 149 hp while the 2.4-liter unit went from 172 to 175 hp. A panel van version debuted later that year. For 2008, stability control finally became available and the turbocharged, 2.0-liter, 260-hp SS version appeared in showrooms later in the year. More standard features came on line for all HHR trims for '09, including antilock brakes, stability control and side curtain airbags. For 2009 only, there was an SS version of the panel van

problem with 06 Chevy HHR clutch and ABS light system?

The vehicle is 2yrs old and the clutch has already gone out. When inspected by a mechanic the outcome was a fried disc. A clutch system should not give out in 2yrs. I am a cautious driver and NEVER ride the clutch. Also the ABS light turned on at the same moment that the clutch gave out while on the road. The light has not turned off since. After reviewing the manual, it is my understanding that the airbags are supposed to deploy when this happens. They did not. Can anyone help?

They seem to be decent cars... capable of carrying a lot of things. The offered engines (2.2L and 2.4L) have been in use in other GM vehicles for a while now, and have proven to be reliable. Most common complaint seems to be about interior plastics, but any car at that price point will be similar.

My main complaint with the one I rented was that the roof extended too far forward, thus blocking my view of overhead stoplights. But I'm also considerably tall.

I just recently purchased a HHR. I love it. I have loved them since they came out. It's not for everyone. If you live outside the box then this is the car for you. It's really fun to drive and I like the fact that it's different. I'm not into large trucks and I didn't want a car that was just a car (if that makes sense). Hope you enjoy as much as I do.

The back of the HHR Panel contains a set of boxes where the wagon versions of the HHR contain a 60/40 folding bench seat. The underlining underneath both are the same. You will need about 4-5 hours to complete the conversion from storage boxes to HHR seats, and tools handy.

You can remove the storage boxes from the back of the hhr panel. One thing you need to know beforehand, is that not only will you need a bench seat out of another HHR, but you will also need the small storage bin that sits n the floor directly behind the rear seats. This is not included in the Panel. You should be able to find one of these on eBay, or craigslist.

Once you have the storgae boxes removed, you will see the mounting points for the rear bench seats. Also, make sure to add the seat belts. I have never completed the seat belt mod but I have read that it can be a pain in the butt, so take your time with it, or better yet, take your Chevy HHR to a mechanic to finish this part of the assembly.

The only drawback of having seats added to the rear of the HHR Panel, is that the passengers in those seats will not have any side windows. If you are looking into buying an HHR new, order one, or buy one that comes with the AA5 option. AA5 adds a "Half Panel" to the rear of the HHR.
