Core Charge. Core is an acronym for ‘Cash On Return’. A core charge is sometimes applied to rebuildable parts such as engines or alternators that can be redeemed for a portion of their original price. If the part you are purchasing has a core charge applied, it will be noted in the description.

Parts Grading. A standard code system is used to communicate the condition and quality of a part between automotive recyclers, automotive repair shops, and insurers. Knowing how these codes are used will help you understand whether the part meets your expectations before you buy it and what you can expect from the part when you receive it.

A Grade
- The highest quality part. It is of low miles and/or exceptional condition for its age.

B Grade
- The second level quality part. It is of average miles and normal condition for its age.

C Grade
- The third level quality part. It has high miles and/or light damage.

No Grade
- A part that has not yet been graded.

Grading Rules

Classification Description Grading Rules

A Assemblies that

allow more damage

than other body

parts.

The grade for Assemblies is based on Units of Damage. A unit of damage is defined as an area

which a credit card will cover.

Assemblies (A)

Grade Rule

A 0 to 3 units of damage

B More than 3 units of damage, but less than or equal to 6 units of damage

C More than 6 units of damage

B Body Parts The grade for Body Parts is based on Units of Damage. A unit of damage is defined as an area which

a credit card will cover.

Body Parts (B)

Grade Rule

A 0 to 1 units of damage

B More than 1 unit of damage, but less than or equal to 2 units of damage

C More than 2 units of damage

C Miscellaneous

Parts that don't fit

into other

categories or can

only be described

as in "good" or

"bad" working order.

The grade for Miscellaneous Parts is based on Damage Reported. Damage Reported is an

indication of any type of degradation or poor part quality.

Note: If the Damage Reported field is blank, then no grade is assigned.

Miscellaneous Parts (C)

Grade Rule

A Damage Reported = None

B This grade is never assigned to a Miscellaneous Part.

C If there is ANY damage reported, the part is graded a "C".

M Mechanical or parts

that are affected

and/or associated

with mileage.

The grade for Mechanical Parts is based on Mileage and ModelYear .

Mechanical Parts (M)

Grade Rule

A If the following are true, then the part is graded an "A":

l If the part has less than 60,000 miles, it will be graded A.

l If the part has 60,000 miles or more, but less than 200,000 miles, it will be

graded as follows:

A If the following are true, then the part is graded an "A":

l If the part has less than 60,000 miles, it will be graded A.

l If the part has 60,000 miles or more, but less than 200,000 miles, it will be

graded as follows:

If the part has less than 15,000 miles per model years of age it will be

graded A.

Example

Current Year of Part = 2006

Current Year = 2008

Part Mileage = 42,000

Step 1: Determine the Model Year Age of the Part

Model Year Age of a Part = (Current Year + 1) - Model Year

(2008 +1) - 2006

2009 - 2006 = 3 years

The Model Year Age of this part is 3 years in 2008.

Step 2: Determine the Model Year Age of the Part per Year

Part Mileage/Model Year Age of the Part = Model Year Age per Year

42,000/3 = 14,000 miles

The Model Year Age of this Part per Year = 14,000 miles.

Therefore, the part will be graded "A".

B If the following are true, then the part is graded a "B":

If the part has 60,000 miles or more, but less than 200,000 miles, it will be

graded as follows:

If the part has 15,000 miles or more per model year it will be graded B.

C If the following are true, then the part is graded a "C":

If any damage is selected in the Damage Reported field, the part is automatically

graded a "C".

If 'None' is selected in the Damage Reported field, but the mileage is equal to or

greater than 200,000 miles (or 321,869 kilometers), regardless of age, the part is

graded a "C".

W Wheels and Wheel

Covers

The grade for Wheels and Wheel Covers is based on Units of Damage.

Wheels and Wheel Covers (W)

Grade Rule

A 0 units of damage

B More than 0, but less than or equal to 1 unit of damage

C More than 1 unit of damage
